The Dutch coalition government collapsed on Tuesday after populist Geert Wilders withdrew his party in a dispute over migration policy.
The far-right firebrand threatened on Sunday to pull out his Party for Freedom (PVV) unless the four-party coalition agreed to his demands for a tough stance on asylum seekers.
His party's 10-point plan included measures such as the closure of Dutch borders to asylum seekers, the closure of asylum seeker reception centres, and an end to family reunification for recognised refugees.
The PVV is the largest party in the Netherlands parliament.
