ABU DHABI (WAM)

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) and the UAE Public Prosecution have announced the launch of the inaugural Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit on May 5-6, 2025.

The summit is set to be a premier global platform bringing together leading decision-makers, legal and technology experts, government representatives, private sector leaders, and civil society stakeholders.
The event aims to develop ethical and legislative frameworks for advanced technologies, most notably artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and Web3, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a driving force behind future legislation and a regional and global hub for responsible innovation.

The summit comes at a pivotal moment, as the world faces unprecedented transformations driven by rapid technological advancements. These changes bring with them complex legal, ethical, and operational challenges that require robust cross-border collaboration and agile governance systems.

More than 500 prominent figures from around the world are expected to participate, including government officials, policymakers, international experts from specialised organisations, tech industry leaders, academic institutions, research centres, and regulatory and judicial authorities.

The summit will also serve as a launchpad for several joint initiatives between regulatory bodies, multilateral organisations, and academic institutions. These initiatives aim to establish advanced legal frameworks that are adaptable to the fast-paced evolution of technology and aligned with the needs of the future.

The summit’s outcomes are expected to significantly bolster the UAE’s national efforts to build a resilient, knowledge-based economy grounded in advanced technologies. It will support the responsible deployment of AI and foster a balance between innovation and legal protection, positioning the UAE as a global model for digital governance.

The Summit is an international forum dedicated to promoting multilateral cooperation in developing digital governance. It brings together governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society to shape responsible and sustainable policies for the future of emerging technologies.
