TRENDS Research & Advisory hosted H.E. Ashrafjon Sheralievich Gulov, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UAE, at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi for a TRENDS Global Dialogue Series discussion session.

The session highlighted the vital role of think tanks in analysing contemporary global issues, foreseeing future developments, and driving sustainable development efforts.

At the beginning of the discussion, Ambassador Gulov briefed TRENDS researchers on Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s initiatives at the United Nations, which focus particularly on water, sustainable development, and the importance of artificial intelligence in achieving development goals. He emphasised the importance of research cooperation as one of the fundamental pillars of progress and prosperity.

The session saw participation from a group of TRENDS researchers, particularly youth. It focused on the value of research in future foresight and explored opportunities for collaboration between TRENDS and think tanks in Tajikistan.

Ambassador Gulov praised TRENDS’ research contributions and high-quality publications and expressed interest in seeing the centre participate in international academic conferences. He also commended TRENDS’ efforts in research and training and its active role in promoting peace and tolerance.

He also officially invited TRENDS to participate in the upcoming Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action 'Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028'."

The conference, to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, will be hosted by the Tajikistan government in cooperation with the United Nations. It aims to continue uniting the world around water issues, support the implementation of voluntary commitments outlined in the Water Action Agenda, and secure new commitments to foster partnerships and accelerate progress toward achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals related to water.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, welcomed H.E. Ambassador Gulov and provided an overview of the centre’s work, research sectors, and focus areas. He emphasised the pivotal role of think tanks in shaping policy and offering innovative solutions to global challenges, noting that collaboration enriches knowledge exchange and leads to high-impact research outcomes.

Dr. Al-Ali reaffirmed TRENDS’ commitment to fostering research partnerships with Tajik think tanks, which aligns with the centre’s guiding motto, Foreseeing the Future Through Knowledge. He emphasised TRENDS’ ongoing efforts to build effective academic and research partnerships with institutions regionally and globally to promote a culture of research.

He further noted that water issues are at the heart of TRENDS’ agenda, as they represent a critical global challenge that requires more profound exploration and long-term foresight. At the end of the session, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali presented Ambassador Gulov with a selection of TRENDS’ latest publications.
