Six people were slightly injured at Mallorca airport during the evacuation of a Ryanair passenger aircraft due to a minor fire on board, Spanish media reported on Saturday.

The passengers were able to leave the aircraft in an orderly manner through the emergency exits, but some jumped several metres from the wing in panic, the reports said.

The incident occurred on Friday night, media wrote.

Citing information from the airline, British newspaper The Sun reported that the plane was supposed to fly to the northern English city of Manchester. A replacement aircraft was provided promptly, it added.

The cause of the fire on board was initially unknown.

A total of 18 people were treated by paramedics, Mallorcan media reported. Six people were taken to hospital, but none of them suffered serious injuries, they said.

Mallorcan media published video footage of the aircraft, showing people climbing out of an open emergency exit onto the right wing, then getting down to the ground and running away from the plane.

No smoke or flames are visible.
